point of view

Thanks to DVD I can watch old episodes of "Boomtown," an NBC show that was cancelled soon after I declared my love for it. This happens a lot. Also it happens to great shows.

Formula for commercial TV failure: critical acclaim + Mapgirl endorsement = inevitable cancellation.

Anyway, one of the great things about "Boomtown" was its conceit of telling one story from many points of view. If you've ever seen the classic Japanese film, "Rashomon," you know where the "Boomtown" creators got their clever idea.

Taking a page from Boomtown and Kurosawa, I want to recount one of the most important dates in the history of Mapgirl's family. Check back tomorrow and in the coming days to hear about it from me, my dad, my siblings ... a little cyber-boomtown.
