Because the [infinite number, constantly increasing] books in my new place are not enough reading material, today I went and joined a library.
This is not the public library -- it's a subscription library. It is completely antiquated and romantic and charming. I love everything about it. A woman greeted me, accepted my subscription and told me about the lecture series and upcoming events. She gave me a tour of the stacks (please note the exceptionally generous mysteries and large print sections). She pointed out the local books and the gardening section.
She gave me my handwritten library card and hand-stamped all the circulation materials. It was adorable. I chose a few videotapes (no DVDs here) and Gerald Ford's biography.
What a wonderful little place.
